IMPART PICTURES...campaigning to stop child abuse

The Film Production

GASLIGHTING was produced by people who have worked with abused teenagers and young offenders. The objective of the production was to produce a campaign film, based on true events, to promote tolerance and empathy toward young offenders who have been victims of poverty and abuse, and to re-focus the public’s attention on the causes of youth crime, rather than the crime itself.

The campaign film was shot with public and corporate donations, local community support and the assistance of Panavision, Panalux, Pinewood and Lypsync, and a host of film industry professionals. The film stars Stephen Graham (‘This is England’, ‘Boardwalk Empire’, ‘Snatch’, ‘Gangs of New York’) and has been scored by stellar film composer Clint Mansell (‘Noah’, ‘Filth’, ‘Black Swan’, ‘Requiem for a Dream’). The film's sound team included Academy Award winner Richard Pryke ('Slumdog Millionaire', 'Jack Ryan, Shadow Recruit', 'V for Vendetta').

"I have run film production and screenwriting programmes for young offenders and have taught over 100 students deemed “unteachable”. Most of my students were in care, from broken homes and abusive backgrounds, most had attempted suicide and self- harmed, many were institutionalised, apathetic, distrusting and violent, few could read or write. Most importantly, all, and I mean all, had a story to tell, a moment when the offending started and the violence began, when that first adult broke their trust and stole their childhood" - Gaslighting writer/director Elaine Wickham
